After violin was introduced into China from West, composing, performing and education of violin in China have developed fast, which produced many pieces of distinctive violin music. In the history of violin in China, Chen Gang played an important role, who contributed a lot to the Chinese style of violin art, especially in the combination of Chinese melody materials and western harmonies and western structures. In addition, Chen also made great contributions in the combination and creation of playing skills of Chinese instruments and the traditional western violin-playing skills.Chen Gang gave an active thinking on the Nationalization of violin works and argued that only by keeping the diversity of various cultures in the world and encouraging communications within the various cultures can music keep developing, which to some extent work out the problem in the composition of Chinese violin works.Based on Chen's times and his characteristics of composition in his three stages, the paper analyzed and contrasted the materials, melodies, harmonies and structures. It made interpretations of agreement of Chen's music and western musical forms which is a characteristics of Chen's works. It also interpreted Chen's music in which his composing skills reflected the western aesthetic ideas. The paper revealed the importance of Chen's works in terms of localization of violin music and diversity of world music and gave a deeper discussion on how violin music in China should develop in the future.
