The Musical Study Of Chen Gang's Violin Concerto《Wang Zhaojun》

After decades of his masterpiece Butterfly Lovers'production, the violin concerto Wang Zhaojun is the famous composer Chen Gang's another piece of influential works in the 1980s and it is praised as the sequel of the former. Combining western concerto genre with Chinese national tones and utilizing the structure of sonata form in music composition, the thesis makes statement of this historical tale-Zhaojun Departs the Frontier in vivid and exquisite music language. It inherits the lyricalness, dramatic qualities of Butterfly Lovers but with deeper-leveled description and depiction in depth and width.Starting from Chen Gang's art life and the composition process of the violin concerto Wang Zhaojun; through the comprehensive analysis of the musical form structure, subject materials, polyphonyic music language, acoustics, dynamic elements and other aspects of the works itself, the thesis makes deep understanding of the humanistic spirit and ideological connotation and tries to reveal the improvement and changes of the composer's composing styles. And it also makes coordinating and summaries of the evolution and breakthrough during the development of Chen Gang's violin concerto. Through all these attempts, the research aims to enrich and perfect the theoretical system of nationalization of the violin music creation so as to make music creation of this type which has Chinese styles and applies to the Chinese aesthetic habits more effeciently.The topic's choice and writing adhere to my tutor's research idea "living music" and the study adopts literature research methods and comparative study methods on the basis of theoretical study, together with the interview method in order to make comparatively scientific conclusions.The author went to Shanghai on purpose to interview the composer Mr Chen Gang and learn from him in November 2009. I have benefited a lot from this and obtained precious first-hand studying materials, which has played a great role in the writing of the thesis.
