This dissertation examines Meinong's psychology thought of form-quality based on his English translated works. It puts the thought against the background of the human science approach of psychology, traces its sources, explains its concepts and basic views, and gives an objective and systematic account. Then it clarifies the thought's historical context, appraises it objectively, and views it from the point of experimental phenomenology. After distinguishing object and content in Brentano's concept of intentionality, putting Ehrenfels' concept of form-quality into the category of object, Meinong offers the concept of higher order objects, discusses its intentional grasp from production, psychic analysis and perceptual evasiveness, thus develops his psychology thought of form-quality. The thought is deepened by his students Witasek. Benussi and Ameseder, then the school of form-quality made up of them comes into being. The thought evokes several disputes and influences Wiirzburg school, Berlin's gestalt psychology, Wholistic psychology, English psychology. It also influences Italy psychology through Benussi, but declines soon for inner and outer reasons. The thought extends the human science approach of psychology and makes the meeting between the human science and natural science approaches through criticizing the eiementalism of the latter approach. But it has limit in insisting dualism of experience and was exceeded by experimental phenomenology because the latter combines phenomenological method and experimental technique.
