Studying the development of the form language of the figure painting ink and wash is an important component of researching into the contemporary artistic characteristics. This thesis tries hard to study carefully the language aspect that is under the guiding of the spirit of Chinese ink and wash, and describes the modern transformation of the traditional language of Chinese ink and wash especially. It has certain meanings for deepening the understanding of figure painting and defining the current situation of the development and its position in contemporary art. In the first chapter, the author discusses the language background of the figure painting and through which the backing of the culture entrusting the spirits of the painting ink and wash are also discussed. The characteristics of the language of the figure painting in the painting ink and wash art are discussed carefully. The pluralistic linguistic context derived out the artistic designs that were different in the artistic style in the 20th century. The second chapter of this thesis describes the characteristics and meanings of the plural culture at first: pluralism of the idea and pluralism of the language. Through the analysis of the development and the new trails blazed in the form of the language form of the figure painting and the individualized language of the artists, the vivid and colorful plural views of the contemporary Chinese painting ink and wash present themselves before our eyes. In this chapter, the study of the personal artistic explorations to the great artists Xu Beihong and Jiang Zhaohe is the base of the analysis to the pluralistic development in the figure painting. Besides, through the analysis to the other artists'language characteristics in Chinese ink and painting, the compatible condition of the ink and wash with modeling which is the historical theme of investigation and study of language of figure painting realistically is evaluated objectively. And then, the pluralism of contemporary painting ink and wash is launched. If we say painting realistically reflects deconstruction and conformity again of the classical language in the process of exploration of language, then it is clear that the modern painting ink and wash which does not have the nature of painting realistically...
