The research on the literature of the Great Cultural Revolution has been omitted in the past years. It was believed that the literature of the Great Cultural Revolution was a land of blank and wildness, the cause of which was meaningful. In the past ten years, the literature of the Great Cultural Revolution has gradually become one of the focuses of the 20~th century Chinese literature, the research on which has been. deepening and has been yielding delightful results. What is the cause of that? So far, what has it achieved? What is the meaning of it? How should profoundly go on the research on the literature of the Great Cultural Revolution? We should go over all of these. It will help us promote our research on the literature of the Great Cultural Revolution and the 20th century Chinese literature.This paper attempts to expand the issues above. I hope my own research will be of a bit help to the research on the literature of the Great Cultural Revolution in the. future. The paper is constituted of five parts. The first part — the surrey of the research on the Great Cultural Revolution — summarizes the achievements of the research on the literature of the Great Cultural Revolution. The second part — the general situation and characteristic of the research on the literature of the Great Cultural Revolution — generalizes and analyses the three situations and characteristics of that, which is from blank to focus, from main stream to underground and folk, from breakup to non-breakup. The third part—the analysis of the cause about the change of the research on the literature of the Great Cultural Revolution — analyses the inner cause of the change of the research. The fourth part — the meaning of the research on literature of the Great Cultural Revolution — demonstrates the meaning of it in the perspective of literature critics, literature history and social culture. The fifth part — the problems we should pay attention to when we study the literature of the Great Cultural Revolution — puts forward some viewpoints: firstly, we should not ignore the research on the literature of the Great Culture Revolution because of its low evaluation; secondly, we should study it by the means of "laying stress on history" and "looking back to century". thirdly, we should not only pay attention to the excavating of history material, but also carefully discriminate the material when we go on the study.
