The Phenomenon of "New Paper-cut" which arose from 1918 to 2004 , was an extensive and long-term live case since "May 4th New Culture ".By studying,sorting and converging, this paper will fullfill the visual materials of the modern culture history in latter-day of China.and help to transform the traditional arts to modern language ,and maybe, to explore guidelines to the modernization construction of China culture.Comparising with the traditional paper-cut, the "New Paper-cut"has changed with the reform of the society and the transition of the culture, and has broken away from the primitive status of tradition folk-custom. Although the "New Paper-cut" has a countless ties with tradition folk-custom ,it has been presented with new content,different forms and carriers. Meanwhile the successive style and creating people changed too.During the process of combining with the mainstream, its character is widely different with traditional art.Making its presence in the classrooms of western education in 1918, the new paper-cut became eminent from the city folk-customs during the 1930s, which represented the culture and life of common citizens. The period from 1940s to 1980s witnesses an era of "the art should serve politics and the people".Those works recorded the spirital process of Chinese people,from passion,intellectual to crazy and blindness. After China adopted the reform and opening policy, with the liberation of people spirit, the new paper-cut took on multifold characteristics,and gradually quited from the mainsteam culture with commercialization.This marked the ending of its art function to this age.This paper has used two main studying methods. First, on the basis of deeply collecting and many site visits, it systematically studied and cleaned up the materials existed and the results of site visit with provision of a detailed reports. Secondly, with description of the picture,theme,language,originator, ways of invention and its social function of new paper-cut, the paper gives an objective evaluation to its social function and status in a historical aspects. |
