Mr. Donelan Word Theory

Tanglan is one of the earliest scientists who study the ancient Chinese character from the angle of its establishment. There hasn't been a theoretical monograph in the study of Chinese character in the last 2000 years. His Introductory Remarks of Ancient Chinese Character and Chinese Philology have filled this blank.His fundamental research and academic practice not only have laid the foundation of ancient philology, also open the new atmosphere of ancient philology. His thorough research is helpful for the later generation scholars to absorb profits from his theory achievement, to utilize his research technique, to develop his research manner, and then to impel the proper development of philology. In a series of monographs after the founding of the nation, there is only once in a while concern to Mr. Tang's philology theory. Using the description method, this thesis carries on the synthesis and the narration to his philology fundamental research achievement, discussing how he establishes his own theory system in the predecessor's foundation and how he influences the later generations.This paper includes : Introduction introduces the writing goal, the research technique, the main content and the innovation. The first part is about Mr. Tang's biography and his philology books. The second ,third ,fourth, fifth and sixth parts are Mr. Tang's philology theories, including the establishment theory of ancient Chinese philology, the character structural theory, the theory of writing origin and development, the textual research and explanation of ancient Chinese character, the reform research of Chinese character. The last part is the conclusion, summarizing his fundamental research achievement.
