At the end of 60s of 20th Century in the Cultural Revolution,thePiano Concerto "Yellow River" which was adapted from "Choral musicof Yellow River" (composed by Xian Xinghai) by Yin Chengzong, ChuWanghua,Sheng li Hong and Liu Zhuang and was performed firstly in1970 , once made a strong stir at that time. And since it was alwaysperformed in many countries and regions( included Hongkong andTaiwan) from the end of the Cultural Revolution, "Yellow River" hadbecome which was performed, printed, recorded and spreadedmostly of the Chinese Piano Concerto in the 20th Century, as DaiJiafang said in "the musical analysis of Yellow River the PianoConcerto". This because of the "Yellow River" represented impactivevigour, old history and tough ethos of China, and just reflected theimportant status, the huge historical impact and the recognition byboth republic of music and public for this classic.At the present time, the research for "Yellow River" was mostlythe simple description about it's creative process or the disputes forit's different versions, and the comments involved in somemonographs or theses discussed Chinese Symphony were almostgeneral, the special literatures especially with the analysis forharmony were scarce.This thesis based on above-mentioned views,started with the fusion of the pentatonic moledy and functionalharmony,then analyzed thoroughly from Chords,Cadence ,differentof selective harmony of the same Chinese folk songs in the moledy,musical form of "exposition,receive and carry on,development,recapitulation " and the fusion of composition for functionalharmony,made more persuasion to cognizance the artistic value of"Yellow River" for us.Since the "Yellow River" was created in the CulturalRevolution,the very special time in Chinese history, to make thecorrect analysis must on the basis of embedded comprehension andthe knowledge of cultural background of it.The first chapter of thethesis just discussed from the "date of birth", cultural backgroundand the analysis for musical form of "Yellow River", and the secondchapter harmonic analysis was the focus of thesis, then the third oneexplained the significance of history and the deeper cultural intensionthe "Yellow River" contained.
