Guyuan is one of the most representative artists of the revolution War Age of 20th century . He is considered by many to have established the Chinese woodcut style and is an example of the popularization of art. This style is that which he employed during the Yan'an period which has clear, simple & pure characteristics combined with particularly Chinese features.In this paper, I will study the characteristics, formation and variation of Guyuan's woodcut style, by analyzing Guyuan's most representative works from different periods and interpreting their forms and styles. Furthermore, I will present a detailed discussion of the development and changes of the New Woodcut Movement in the Liberated Area, in order to give a better understanding of the revolution of 20th century Chinese Revolutionary Art. In particular, I will concentrate on the relationship between Guyuan's style and the linguistic and cultural context of the period and the popularization movement in general.
