This dissertation attempts to look at the appearance of and the changes in Tibetan theatre in the Amdo Region, until its development into the "rnam thar" genre. It analyses the move of the Nanmute genre since its formation, from the monastery to popular society, and then to the professional state theatre troupes. It illustrates the characteristics and significance of each stage of development, citing mainly two regions as examples: that of Labrang in Gansu Province and Repkong in Qinghai Province. The dissertation is based on the results of research carried out by previous generations on Tibetan theatre, while using first-hand materials resulting from field research the author conducted in these areas. By combining historical documents and my the author's own research, this dissertation attempts to clarify the development of the rnam thar genre, and look at the current development of this theatrical genre and its characteristics, thus analysing issues such as its future development and the challenges and opportunities it faces.This dissertation is divided into five chapters:Chapter One is an introduction, serving mainly to set out the objectives and significance of the topic, as well as explaining the methods of research applied, and its advantages, and the difficulties encountered while conducting research for this dissertation.
