| News is an important social phenomenon in this information era. It's indispensable for many fields, such as for the economy, the development of society and social economy, foreign trade and people' daily life. In fact, news is pervasive and more and more experts have paid close attention to it. Linguists also have studied news language from different aspects, which is the most important communicative element in news, in order to grasp the basic language rules and theory, and thus make the news language more scientific and accomplish the aim of news.Gorky once said that language study is the most basic material for writings, especially for literature works. The characteristics of news language are: accuracy, brevity, vividness, and modesty. Brevity is quite important in nowadays' rapid society. News language requires the quantity to be large, the space of a whole page to be economical. As an important subject in pragmatics, presuppositions can be used in news language for its characteristics.The author hopes to find some instructions for the application of presupposition in news through her comprehensive and deep study. This paper studies the definition and characteristics of presupposition and analyzes the application of presupposition in news, which may enrich the pragmatic research. |
