This thesis anatomizes the reasons for the formation of the characters of the women images and the evolvement of their fates through the author's life experience and the influence on the author's creative intention and ideology brought by the social and historical conditions as well as religious and cultural background. Unscramble again the two women patterns (the traditional and the rebellious) on the basis of the feminist theory. With the relevant views of collective unconsciousness and psychoanalysis to expose the unfortunate encounter of the southern women who deeply suffered from the oppression and persecution given by the male authority and Puritanism, and the process during which they fought against the patriarchal society for winning their individual independence and blessedness.
