The theory of " collective unconsciousness" originated from Carl Gustav Jung(Carl Gustav Jung,1875-1961).He is recognized as an extremely important figure in the modern western ideological circle. His psychological theory is based on sociology and biology, and the research scope covers religion, art, etc. It plays an important role in the formation of modern psychology, psychotherapy and psychiatry.Jung further studied unconsciousness on the basis of Freud's theory, dividing the spiritual world into three aspects: consciousness, individual unconsciousness and collective unconsciousness." Collective Unconsciousness" is the theoretical basis of Jung's artistic creation. It is a psychological factor that depends on heredity and evolution, and exists independently and universally without relying on personal experience.Collective unconsciousness is a part of the long historical evolution of the sum of the whole nation's experiences such as cultural tradition, national and ethnic history. It can also be said to be a part of individual apriority. Its prototype can be revealed in acquired experience through symbolic forms. Its central principle is order, unity and integrity, and it is also the foundation for human beings to realize their life self.Collective unconsciousness theory cuts into instinct and transcendental psychological structure, which enriches the understanding of human nature on the basis of traditional philosophy and psychology. In Jung's view, the process of artistic creation and works of art is completely formed under the control of collective unconsciousness. The artistic creation process is the activation and carrier of collective unconsciousness. It embodies the prototype spirit of human beings and is the source of vitality and power of artistic creation. The original images in artistic works prove the collective unconsciousness, and the theoretical research of collective unconsciousness provides a more in-depth interpretation ofartistic works, creative behaviors and artists. From the perspective of collective unconsciousness, the great significance of a work of art lies in that it breaks away from the narrow limitation of personal experience, transcends the personal interests of the creator of the work, and realizes eternity in caring for the fate of the whole human race. Therefore, the essence of art also lies in expressing the collective subconscious. The essence of artistic works is to transcend personal limitations, call for the soul of the times, and make up for the lack of consciousness of the times in form.At present, the 90-year-old Yayoi Kusama's works of art are widely influential in the contemporary art field due to their large number, wide media field, bright vision, high academic and cultural value and active commercial field. Her creative experience of more than half a century, suffering from both mental audio-visual disorder and obsessive-compulsive schizophrenia, has provided valuable research materials to the field of artistic psychology and a living case for artistic therapy and collective unconscious research in art. This article takes yayoi kusama as a case study, through how she translates collective unconsciousness of personal experience into symbol and the psychological function and iconography analysis of the symbol,to write the concrete manifestation, function and significance of collective unconsciousness in the field of contemporary art.Through the concrete theoretical research of collective unconscious and contemporary art,the collective unconscious art theory and the yayoi kusama are reinterpreted.
