Based on pitch structural logic of the overall melody, this article starts with formation and development of transversal tonality structure and longitudinal consonance; analyzes tone-set theory of Zhu Jian'er Symphony No.9 in details; comments on its basic methods and overall features of expression, hoping that we could grasp the dominant function of tone-set in music in a microcosmic and macroscopical manner.The first chapter demonstrates a brief introduction about Mr Zhu Jian'er's life and symphony works, specifically the structure of Symphony No.9.Chapter 2 puts forward the tone-set theory at the very beginning, following with a transversal and longitudinal analysis in respective parts in the symphony, which leads to several patterns of tone-sets: 2 displaced tone-sets of same structure in 12-tone-system, 6 transversal tone patterns and 4 longitudinal consonances. We alsodiscuss about the specific relation between major tone-set body and sub-parts.Chapter 3 expatiates the dominance control of major tone-sets through pitch structure.Chapter 4 addresses some pitch structures which are closely related with core tone-sets. By analyzing this, we could speculate boldly on the pitch and structural logics in the sub-consciousness of the composer.Chapter 5 probes into the structural strength of this symphony, including the body and extentional-parts; theme and core tones; monologue and melody, etc.In conclusion, the article demonstrates some opinions on connotation of Zhu Jian'er Symphony No.9.
