John Brahms was a German composer with the tendency of Classicalism at the era of Romanticism. His music held not only strong characteristics of Romanticism, but also demonstrate sense of harmony, which is basic feature of German music culture tradition. Brahms's piano music incorporated German classicalism with Romanticism spirit, made unique contribution to the development of European music culture. But we also noticed, in comparison with other great composers, Brahms's piano works always seems to be grand and incomprehensible. As a consequence ,this article started from the representative works of Brahms's late piano music-his late piano pieces, stressed on the relationship between Brahms and German music tradition , and further examined these work's embodiment of German music tradition, deeply analyzed the national characteristic in his piano music composing. This study has great significance for those piano-players to further comprehend and express the thought and artistic implication in Brahms's late piano pieces.
