Abstract/Summary:
The relationship between mother and child is an important inter-person relationship which plays an essential role in the process of individual growing up. Conflict exert important influence on the mother-child relation, is an indispensable element in the this relation. Therefore, it is meaningful and essential to study the relationship between mother and child with the conflict between the two as the study background.So far, there have been some researches conducted on parenthood in china. One of those researches' features is applying the perspective of "from top to bottom", namely, they focuses on the parent and use the parent's psychological reaction data as the basis of analysis. Furthermore, there's few researches concentrate on the mother-child relationship. This study applies the perspective of "from bottom to top", with the conflict as background, to probe mother-child relation by using child's psychological reaction data including cognition, emotion and behavior, etc.Another feature of the conducted researches on parenthood is mainly using quantitative demonstration research. Recently, qualitative research has been more and more valued and applied in psychological circle. For this research tries to understand the detailed process of the conflict between mother and child, the impact of interaction, child's explanation of his behavior in the conflict and probe the complicated psychological world as well as the cultural background behind, so it is suitable to apply qualitative research method. This research uses "grounded theory", with conflict as background, to analyze the actuality and characteristics of mother-child relations among the youth in china.Using semi-structural interview syllabus, this research conduct in-depth interview among 32 adolescents from 6 schools of different types in Shanghai. These students and mothers are of various relation types, with students between 13 and 18 years old. Averagely, every participant was interviewed for 66 minutes, the whole interview lasting about 3 months. During the interview, 30-thousand-word research log and 300-thousand-word tape-recorded data was collected.The main results of this research can be summed into 3 parts:1. Generalize mother's and child's cognitional, emotional and behavioral reaction in conflict and understand child's psychological move in conflict, measures being used by children to deal with conflict, the characteristics of mother-child relation as well as the mother's influence on child.2. On the basis of the 1st part, we analyze and interpret the mother-child relation from 3 perspectives: power, consanguinity, inter-person relation. These 3 perspectives can also be seen as the 3 important elements in mother-child relation.2.1 The characteristics of mother-child relation are richest from the perspective of power, mainly embodied as " mother's control and child's obey". Mother usually maintains and applies power by using experiential, authority or ethical strategy, while child usually obey to mother's power with various reasons, behaving as passive acceptation or reply.
