Han Immortal Concept Of Transformation, From The Han Dynasty

Evolvement of inner spirit of art is indispensable to human spirit in a certain historical environment, while spiritual contents of art works in different periods reflect human spirit of the period. The inner factor for the art spiritual evolvement of the two phases of Han Dynasties lies in the differences in academic ideology, conceptual forms, ways of thinking and natural environment. This can be clearly demonstrated from the objective conversion in the paintings of Han Dynasties.Paintings on silk and tomb frescoes of the West Han Dynasty are mainly centered around the subject of "becoming an immortal", which reflects the prevailing concept of believing in the immortal in Qin and Han Dynasties when people dream to surpass their natural lives to immortal. From late West Han Dynasty to East Han Dynasty, paintings show us a co-existing world of the immortal and human, and a tendency of the immortal's returning to or converting to the human. This reflects the change of people's concept towards the immortal. Basically speaking, this is the external expression for the conversion of ancient Chinese culture, ideals, life philosophy and traditional art tastes. Among so complicated kinds of arts and great amount of works, the author chooses to make study of tomb frescoes and paintings on silk, stones and bricks, which are typical visual arts of the Han Dynasties. She wants to analyze ideology, culture and philosophy of the two phases of Han Dynasties by investigating into different concepts about the universe and life and death, and different philosophy systems of Confucianism and Taoism. This piece of writing aims to illustrate the conceptual conversion of the immortal from the West to the East Han Dynasties by exploring the objective conversion in the visual art style of paintings.
