Ji-tong. Of "biography" And "outlaws Of The Marsh" Relationship

Hong kil dong jon is the first novel in Korea mother tongue, that was ever independently created by Korean writers. It obtains materials from an uprising leaded by the legendary ancient hero Hong kil dong, and t has a great influence upon Korean novels and narrative language, and also epochal significances in the history of Korean literature.Huh kyun (1569—1618), who is respected as the father of Korean literature, the auther of Hong kil tong jon, is a famous novelist and thinker in the middle of Li's Chosun Dynasty. Not only proficient in Korean but also well-versed in Chinese linguistics and literature, he has written plenty of woks in Chinese. He participated in the communicative activities between Korea and China for many times, contributing enormously to the ancient cultural exchanging between the two countries.The belief that Huh kyun loved reading Shui hu zhuan and created Hong kil tongjon to imitate it originated from Korean writer Li jik, a contemporary of Huh kyun, and Li jik's view has been held true for a long time. Nevertheless, the two masterpieces have no similarity in detail, and Hong kil tongjon is different from the other Korean novels which actively imitate Chinese literature woks. The thesis intends to resolve this problem from the opposite side, and supposes an opposite view to the traditional one: Huh kyun may not necessarily have read Shui hu zhuan, and Hong kil tongjon may not necessarily have been influenced by Shui hu zhuan.This thesis is divided into three chapters. Chapter One is the main part, which analyzes correlative historical documents with the method of influence research. Firstly, I close read two paragraphs associated with Shui hu zhuan in Huh kyun's anthology, and I argue that one is possibly erroneously reported, and the other is transshipment. Secondly, I analyze that the cause of the view which Hong kil tong jon imitates Shui hu zhuan is based on Li jik's conception and standpoint, and consequently it can not be the evidence either. Thirdly, I arrange the time and versions that Shui hu zhuan spread to Korean Peninsula, interpreting that Huh kyun was killed before Shui hu zhuan reached Korea. Fourthly, examining the text, I compare the common that Korean literature woks imitate that of China and prove that there is no similarity in detail between Hong kil tongjon and Shui hu zhuan. Chapter Two and Three analyze it from the perspectives stylistics and cultural criticism respectively, revealing the great differences in subject, style and theme. These differences can also demonstrate that the view which Hong kil tong jon imitates Shui hu zhuan is not tenable.
