As A Historian Alexis De Tocqueville

As a historian, Tocqueville played an important role in history of western historiography. However, so far, there are not enough academic researches about him in domestic. This dissertation are based on the relative research results, especially from some important works of Tocqueville, as a historian. The article has five parts:Part â…  is the reviews of the thesis and the establishment of the research direction. First of all, it introduces some the newest research results both from domestic and overseas through analyzing the research results of the famous scholars. Then it points the differences between domestic and overseas and the defects in the researching area in China. Finally, it expounds the author's orientation, named, recounting and charging all the aspects of Tocqueville as a historian. This part also gives relative introductions about the thesis's value and significance.Part â…¡ is the specific researches about Tocqueville's historical view. Tocqueville had a distinctive opinion to the French Revolution which can summarized in the following two aspects: firstly , different from the many other understandings in that era, he thought the French Revolution was the succession and the development of the old regime rather than the crack of history; Secondly, he found an odd phenomenon during his research ,that is ,the reasons for the revolutions were really not the people's situation getting worse and worse, contrarily, the improvements of the conditions sometimes also could accelerate the revolutions. Tocqueville also had his own macroscopic standpoint to the whole history. He asserted the democracy and equality as the current of the human history. Meanwhile, he also realized the democracy and equality would bring the threats to the freedom and the human's spirits. This part concerned about Tocqueville's abundant understanding of the historian causality as well.Part â…¢ discussed Tocqueville's method and attitude in his research. Tocqueville used a lot of quizing-replying forms and it developed a research pattern.
