The study of The Book of Songs in 1920s-1930s has the vital significance in the history of the study on The Book of Songs. It overthrows the study of Confucian Classics and establishes new academic paradigm, which symbolized the fundamental switch in study on The Book of Songs as well as the setup of the modern research. In such short twenty years, a lot of research results riching in academic values has occurred, and are also accepted by later researchers. Meanwhile, the method, the structure and the tendency of academic study that formed in this period have great influences on the modernized study of The Book of Songs. The gist of this essay is to reveal this significance through concret analyses about the study on The Book of Songs. There are three chapters in total:Chapter one focuses on the introduction of the outer academic background and giving out a general understanding of the study on The Book of Songs in this period. As to the outer academic background, the essay maily discuss the New Cultural Movement which includes the Literature Revolution, sorting out the traditional civilization campaign and folklore campaign, and important influentional ideological trends such as evolution, doutful view about ancient history, science and democracy, individualism and so on.Chapter two take the studies on The Book of Songs by Hu Shi, Gu Jiegang, Wen Yiduo as examples to probe into the study on The Book of Songs in this period. Through discussing their remarks on The Book of Songs, academic characters and achievements and losses in their studies, this part draws a deep and comprehensive conception about the study on The Book of Songs in this stage.Chapter three is the academic summary of the study on The Book of Songs in 1920s and 1930s. This chapter divides into three sections. The first part analyses the new changes in the research goal, the attitude, the method, the structure, the topic, the writing language and works form. In essential, it discusses the influence of New Cultural Movement to the study on The Book of Songs in 1920s and 1930s. The second part analyses the characteristic part of the study in this period, that is the research method. Under the world cultural background, the newly formed method promotes the study on The Book of Songs to a new level. The third part takes an accademic summarize about the value and influence of the study on The Book of Songs during 1920s to 1930s, fully affirming the meaning of "broken" and "setup" as well as the influence to the later study.
