In the essay, the writer wants to study SangTong's artistic expression and originality in his composition of piano works with traditional style by means of a detailed analysis into his Seven Pieces of Inner Mongolia Traditional Music created in 1950s.Since the exhibition of the first piano in 1709 , it is about 300 years for the keyboard instrument to develop. During this period, the western musical masters created a great number of works, which have become the precious part of human civilisation. From the middle period of Qing Dynasty, piano was sent to the imperial government of China as a tribute, which was associated with the cultural and educational reform in the late period of Qing Dynasty with abolishing imperial examination and developing school education as the main idea. When it was associated with the new musical education symbolised by school music, piano, as an organic part of entertainment for the common people, has come to be known, accepted and liked, especially by the young intellectuals. With the developing of this foreign keyboard instrument, Chinese musicians have been working hard to master the great piano works by western musical masters, and meanwhile creating many piano works with unique traditional style. Sang Tong's Seven Pieces of Inner Mongolia Traditional Music will be analysed in the essay in order that SangTong's traditional uniqueness in the composition of piano works can be probed into.Sang Tong is a great composer, musical theorist and music educationist. He won the bronze Medal for his important works Seven Pieces of Inner Mongolia Traditional Music in the Sixth International Youth Fiesta of 1957.
