The Evolution Of The Spirit Of British Industry And Transmutation

In the process of British Industrialization, the industrial spirit played a crucial role on the development of industry development in Britain. It made England the "engine" of the industrial development in the whole world. However, along with the passing of time, the industrial spirit was transmuted negatively and had huge negative influence on the industry development, which is the fatal factor of modern England's declination. This article, which is composed of three parts, tries to explore the evolution of British industrial spirit and its negative transmutation in order to demonstrate the influence of industrial spirit on both of the prosperity and declination of British industry.The first part analysizes the reasons of industrial spirit's emergence in England. England owned the following superior factors: the economic stimulation of the social demand for cotton fabric; the superior political system and the social environment; the policy of superior economic freedom; Protestantism ethics; pervasive practical and experimental idea. Therefore, industrial spirit at first emerged in England.The second part discusses the evolution of the industrial spirit in England. The spirit of "pursuing profit reasonably" is the motive power of industrial revolution, whereas the spirit of "pursuing profit reasonably " is not equal to the true industrial spirit, between which there happened a revolutionary in the field of thinking. This revolutionary theoretically established a proper status for the behavior of pursuing profits and brought up a positive and vigorous industrial spirit. In the later part of the 18th century, the industrial spirit flooded in the entire society and the society gradually formed an atmosphere of thinking highly of doing business, being practical, risky and aggressive. In order to pursue profits, people took part in the activities of investment and production and carried on the comprehensive technological transformations to each department.
