Temperature is one of the most common phenomena in the natural world, which is one of the basic sense perceptions of human beings. The previous research on temperature has made great success in many different fields, such as the meteorology, physics, biology, psychology and so on. However, the systematic research of the lexicons on temperature is far from enough in linguistics. In view of this situation, this thesis selects the lexicons of temperature sensations as the object of study. The present study is based on the contemporary theory of modern Chinese. By the analyses of "cold", "cool", "warm", "hot" ,we summarized the characteristics of the lexicons of temperature sensations in semantic system, word-formation and semantic fields and explain the reasons with the knowledge of Cognitive Linguistics. Then contrast the lexicon of the temperature sensations in Chinese, English, Japanese and Korean, to seek the things in common and the individuality characteristic in lexicons of temperature sensations of the human languages.Four methodologies are mainly adopted in the thesis. Concentrates on the main points, take the basic temperature feeling word as the master line, inspect the overall characteristic of the lexicons of temperature sensations in modern Chinese which based on the study of basic lexicons of temperature sensations; Secondly, the static linguistic theory and the dynamic language samples are connected. With the authoritative reference book, collect all members of the lexicons of temperature sensations in modern Chinese, then carries on the comprehensive analysis in this foundation; The main characteristic of the lexicons of the temperature sensations are summarized by analyzing the samples drawn from the literary works and the practical foreign language applications; And lastly, the systematic illustration and the contrastive study are conveyed to summarize the characteristics of the lexicons of temperature sensations in modern Chinese and to contrast the lexicons of temperature sensations between Chinese and English, Japanese , Korean.
