Everyone tries to construct unusual identity in his life, so searching identity has become one of the most popular topics in contemporary literature. Chinese American women are placed in dual edges of race and sex. How they explore their sexual identity, racial identity and cultural identity attracts Chinese American women writers' attention. Since long ago, Being the ethnic minority and the non-white race, Chinese American have been looked down upon as the inferior, barbaric and stupid man in some western-centered people's minds. They are classified as a group which is being portrayed and narrated . In addition, Chinese American women are degenerated into stereotypes, and their identities are controlled by the mainstream ideology. Facing the brutal reality, Chinese American women don't evade and keep silent, but boldly revolve social discrimination, subvert mechanical images, ask for rights and construct new identity with the weapon of pen. From "Chinese American Literature Pioneer"—Sui Sin Far to Amy Tan, Chinese American women writers unceasingly involve the discussion of identity.The dissertation consists of an introduction, a conclusion and three chapters.The Introduction summarizes Amy Tan's biography and creation, briefly introduces the main line which passes through her works, and then draws out identity theory.Chapter One: 'The Rootless Search for Identity'. It focuses on a systematic analysis of Chinese American female literature, picks up the representative in each stages, such as Sui Sin Far, Jade Snow Wong. By contrasting the images and novels, we can see that identity seeking is the eternal subject of Chinese American female literature. Because of different background and growth experience, Amy Tan has few similarities with senior writers.Chapter Two: 'Struggle in the Identity Predicament of Dual Edges'.
