Polyphonic Music In The Creation Of Huang

HuangZi is a typical musician in Chinese music circles in 1930s. His music works tell us things of the past and the future, and cover a large scope of history and thinking. He made good use of Chinese traditional culture as well as the western music theories and skills. Huang, who brought Chinese music culture into full play, played an enlightening role in the development of the new Chinese music.In the past, the researches on the works of Huang were mostly from the frame of harmony and form or its style. I try to analyze polyphonic music of his works and hope you can gain something from it.This article focus on the vocal works and instrumental works from "Posthumous works of HuangZi", which was published by Anhui Art Press. Three problems are discussed to the different period and different style: The early period of polyphony music style is Baroque's; Combining Chinese characteristics and Western composing skills; Combining monophony and polyphone. Finally, I reach a conclusion of Huang's polyphonic music style and the enlightenment. He explored the subject how to combine the typical traditional polyphone of west and Chinese national language, style, melody, modes. Huang's polyphonic music is plain, typical, succinct, various and sturdy counterpoint. Any kind of skill wouldn't develop continuously without solid basic. Huang had brought western scientific theories and concept of education into China. It was so-called "discarding the dross and selecting the essential". He laid a good foundation of the development of China's music education. Especially under the pattern of globalization, every nation is developing their own culture tenaciously, so the legacies that our elder generation left are more valuable.
