| Mencius, as a famous thinker, politician, educator, is one main representative figure of the Confucianism in the Warring States period. According to "Historical Annals", Mencius's thoughts that are which means that he hopes that emperor can adopt his policy about benevolence through persuading the ones, and then unite the kingdoms without wars and disaster social institution. However, its theory has been regarded as one kind of thoughts which is not suited for our social development at that time. So finally he, together with his apprentices, has no choice but to make writings- "The Mencius". ("Historical Annals - Biography of Mencius and Xunzi")By studying "The Mencius", I have noticed that Mencius thoughts, which has rigid intrinsic level and logic relations, has not formed before he starts his travel. While it has been developing till finished based on various thoughts of schools and regions during the periods of his travel. Therefore, I deeply study the relationship between Mencius travel and his thoughts development, based on current research achievements.The whole paper consists of four chapters. The first three chapters are involved in Mencius travel and his main thoughts as well as his participating in some eventful activities. Among them, the first chapter focuses on analysis Mencius comes into power and tours Qi kingdom for his first time in his life. Mencius raises "Policy about Benevolence", in accordance with Confucius's thoughts that is "Humanity" and "Benevolent Rule", but he has not explained the concrete essences. Mencius starts arguing with Gaozi upon human nature, at the same time criticizes several kinds of human theories spread the whole society at that time. The second chapter pays attention to Mencius travels some kingdoms such as Song, Xue, Lu, Teng kingdoms in the middle of his travel. Mencius theory has been flourished according to his travel and study. And then Mencius explains fully "Policy about Benevolence" to Teng Wengong (emperor of Teng kingdom) and also purposes complete economic thoughts. The third chapter is to analysis that Mencius puts forward "Belief of original goodness of human nature" with "Four Buds" as symbols. Mencius begins debating on the relations between "The Name and Nature" with Chun Yukun during the period of traveling to Liang kingdom and Qi kingdom again. The fourth chapter focuses on Mencius thoughts has been influenced by the culture of Qi kingdom, that means Qi culture how to effect Mencius humanistic thoughts, Mencius Theory of Mind and "Qi" Mencius thoughts of righteousness and domination. |
