This thesis is mainly concerned with Wang Shizhen's calligraphy ideology, and with some relevant fields as well like literary, politics, historiography which are closely related to Wang Shizhen's calligraphy activities. It selects many important propositions of calligraphy ideology to expound.This thesis is divided into five chapters as follows:The introduction chapter includes the theoretical reasons and academic significances for selecting the topic to be studied. It summarizes the current studying situation for Wang Shizhen's calligraphy ideology. It introduces the documentary which has referential value on the studying, as well as elaborates on the researching methods of the study.Essential background of Wang Shizhen's calligraphy-thoughts is introduced in the first chapter which includes the Wang clan, culture of Taitsang region and political background.In the second chapter I discuss Wang Shizhen's calligraphy-thoughts in five aspects containing Wang shizhen's historical conception of calligraphy, main esthetic appreciation, wideness and deepness of calligraphy appraisal theory, the attention to LI calligraphy of the Han dynasty and the change of calligraphy-thoughts.Chapter 3 emphatically explains the relation between calligraphy-theory and literature-theory of Wang Shizhen.Finally conclusion is obtained about value and influence of Wang Shizhen's calligraphy-thoughts, which will be commentated briefly.In short, under the background of the Ming Dynasty culture, through mufti-angle and mufti-level research and analysis, this thesis tries to integrate factors like calligraphy, literature, politics, historiography etc. into an organic whole, and focuses on dissecting Wang Shizhen's calligraphy ideology and his characteristics and achievements, then reveals the inner thread of the development of his calligraphy ideology and aesthetic mental state, and brings to light Wang Shizhen's unique status and value in the calligraphy-thoughts history of the Ming Dynasty.
