One of the main characteristics of Chinese civilization is its people's emphasis on personal cultivation of one's inner morality, which is also one of the fundamental concerns of Chinese traditional ethical culture. Taking cultivation of personal morality as one of the lifelong essential tasks originates from the consensus of the masters in Chin dynasty. The cultivation of personal morality decisively established by Confucian School, and consummated by Confucius. Confucius inherited and developed the ideology of cultivation of personal morality and established a complete and systematic theory of cultivation of personal morality.Confucius'theory of cultivation of personal morality is the theory of"inner sage"advocated by him. The essence is to do personal correction with the guidance of social ethical and moral codes. Thus improve one's moral power and moral level. So, the process of cultivation of personal morality is actually the process of becoming an"inner sage".As a complete system, Confucius'theory of cultivation of personal morality reaches a very high level in the aspects of not only its contents, but also its theoretical level. His theory serves as the foundation of China's traditional ethical culture and influences most profoundly the ages to come.
