It is well known that science in every field develops better due to using the experience of other countries for reference. The task of translating has been playing an important role in the history of musical exchange between Chinese and other countries. In modern times, the introducing of western music contributes to the development of Chinese music. On the other hand, Chinese folk music has made an increasing impact on music all over the world. Looking back upon the Chinese history of musical exchange, the author briefly discuss the evolution of the translated terms of western music with the intention of approaching the rules of translation of the terms and drawing on the experiences, which will do some good to the regulation of the English version terms of Chinese folk music.In this paper, the author collected and collated various English versions of the translated terms of Chinese folk music in certain magazines, dictionaries and related books rendered by translators at home and abroad, analyzed the "One Chinese term, several English versions." phenomenon, discussing the different methods in translating the terms at an attempt to put forward some constructive ideas contributing to the standardization of the English version musical terminology of Chinese folk music and wide musical exchange between China and other countries.
