The construction of an English-Chinese terminology database for Latin Dances is a necessary step benefiting the development of Latin Dances.With the popularization and development of Dance Sport in China,there is still a lack of research on the standard arrangement of Latin Dance terminologies and the construction of related databases.Latin Dance is an imported culture originated in Mexico,Cuba and other places in Central America.In the development process of Latin Dances,it was mainly introduced in the form of English along with Latin Dance culture into China.This paper takes the common Latin Dances movement terms as an example to standardize,summarize and analyze the translations of the terms,and to create the English-Chinese Latin Dances movement terminology database,aiming to improve the Latin Dance teachers and learners’ terminology awareness in Latin Dance classroom teaching,in the mean while to provide an effective teaching tool for Latin Dance classroom teaching.With using the method of literature,logical analysis,questionnaire survey,expert interview and mathematical statistics to analyze the current situation of the use of Latin dance movement terms,and to normalize the Latin Dance movement terms,more than 2000 entries related to Latin Dance movements were collected,and 142 Latin Dance movement terms were finally included after deduplication and screening.Finally completed the creation of the English-Chinese terminology database of Latin Dance movements.The normalization principles of Chinese translation analysis are as follows: firstly,the principle of terminology nomenclature;secondly,the principle of "Faithfulness,Expressiveness and Elegance" in translation;thirdly,the principle of rational.In the process of the collection,induction and analysis of Latin Dance movement terms and the creation of terminology database,this paper draws the following conclusions:(1)The factors that affect the unity of Latin Dance movement terms are firstly the lack of understanding and popularization of Latin Dance movement terms,the lack of relevant research and in-depth;secondly,the translation standards of Latin Dance movement terms are not unified.(2)Teachers lack the normative consciousness of Latin Dance terminology,only a few teachers use English terminology in Latin Dance classroom teaching.(3)Active and effective use of Latin Dance terms can not only improve the quality of Latin Dance teaching,but also have great significance for Latin Dance related learning,communication,literature research and theoretical development.(4)Inadequate knowledge of terminology database.The application of termbase is not only limited to translation,but also can be applied in Dance Sport and other cultural fields.(5)The creation of the Latin Dance movement terminology database includes four steps:deduplication,screening,word selection,sorting and analyzing(two rounds of screening and sorting of the Chinese translation of English terms),and finally determine the forms of commonly used Latin Dance movement terms in both Chinese and English. |
