On The Home Front During The War Novel Phase Characteristics Of The Development

Chinese literature on the Anti-Japanese War opens up a new and glorious chapter in the history of Chinese modern literature. The main part– literature in rear area– is the archetype of the literature on the Anti-Japanese War. The former study that mainly focused on the literature in rear area was only a general summary or analysis about certain famous author or famous works. It failed to give a complete analysis starting from the study of the literary periodicals during the whole period of the Anti-Japanese War.This thesis is just starting from the novels published in a literary magazine– Literature and Art on the Anti-Japanese War. Through collecting, collating and analyzing all the novels in this magazine, this thesis defines and sorts out the different stages in the development of the novels in rear area and tries to reveal the characteristics of each stages. For a long time, the study on the Chinese literature on the Anti-Japanese War is politically utilitarian, tending to be formularize and generalize the study, which causes a standstill in the development of Chinese modern novels. This is mainly because of the lacking of a concrete and systematic analysis and unfamiliarity of certain works to the researchers for certain reasons. The author of this thesis tries to based on those unfamiliar novels in the former study and reveal the real situation of the development of the Chinese literature on the Anti-Japanese War in rear area.In this thesis, the author will change the former way of stage division and divides the whole period into two parts: the earlier stage ( refers to the period before June 15 of 1942 ) and the later stage ( refers to the period after June 15 of 1942 ) .1. The characteristics of the novels in earlier stageFirstly, the author analyzes the real life in the War that is reflected in the novel of this period. Secondly, the author reveal the literary characteristics from the angels of theme ( Resistance against Japanese and saving the nation ), main characters and negative characters in the novels and the way of expressing.2. The characteristics of the novels in later stageFirstly, the author analyzes the real life in the War that is reflected in the novel of this period. Secondly, the author reveal the literary characteristics from the angels of different themes, diversity of the characters in the novels and individuality of the way of expressing.
