HE (harmoniousness) is a very important theoretic category in the history of the aesthetics of music. The character HE (it means harmoniousness) appeared in the inscriptions on bones or tortoise shells as early as in 3000 years ago, which meant the wonderful feeling and experience in the productive work and practice. But as the civilization of human society developed, HE got more extended meanings such as harmoniousness, reconciling, gentleness, kindness. The Confucianists and the Taoists both have a deep understanding of HARMONIOUSNESS and also have made a philosophical analysis on it. Although they differ in their cultural core, they both agree that harmoniousness is the highest realm of the relationship between the subject and the object.HE, as a cultural awareness which exists only in China, has a rich and immensely-ranged content. It has a particular theoretic implication in music. This is mainly reflected in such aspects as the harmoniousness of sound and music, the harmony of music and music player, the unity of human beings and the heaven, the Logicians' idea of musical harmony and the ethical implication of XIAO (filial piety), YUE (music) and HE (harmoniousness).By analyzing the cultural awareness of HE in music, this essay aims at summing up the cultural features of HE (harmoniousness) in Chinese music, and then linked with the current trend of the construction of a harmonious society of the 21st, this essay tries to analyze the realistic significance of HE in music for the construction of a harmonious society. It puts forward that HE's cultural awareness offers four efficient references for the construction of harmonious music education. It learns from the history and serves the current construction and development. It will become a powerful theoretical basis for the building of a harmonious music education, the building of harmonious culture and the construction of a harmonious society.
