Yan family is one of the most influential clans in the middle ancient age in our country. Through the comprehensive case study on Yan family the dissertation means to highlight the general laws governing the development of family and the functions of culture, marriages, social relations in clan's and the whole people's.The dissertation consists of introduction, the main body of three chapters and conclusions. The main issues of the dissertation and the definitions of three words -family educations, learning handed down in a family and customs run in a family are narrated in the introduction. The first chapter narrates Yan family origination, development and its status among the influential clans. Yan family of Tang Dynasty is the direct line descendant of YanHui who is one of Confucius disciples .Yan family experienced patritineal family system of the later primitive society, patriarchal clan rules and regulations from Shang dynasty and Zhou Dynasty to the Western Han Dynasty, noble family in the middle ancient age .Distinguish the noble family from old or new, the Qiaos, the Wus. Yan family' status, generally speaking,, belongs to the old one and later became the Qiaos. Further development in the Tang Dynasty Yan family has been named Harvest County in Lang Ya prefecture all the time. But Yan's status has been behind the Wangs and the Xies who are the first class in politics and economy, but only a second-class .The reason why Yan family was prosperous for more than 600 years lies in its cultural contribution. The second chapter analyzes Yan family education, customs run in a family and learning handed down in a family in Tang Dynasty, and Yan family attached importance to the cultivation of moral and conduct, the study of knowledge and guiding their children to practice .Yan family education has both ability and integrity form, Yan family's customs of steadfast loyalty, filial piety and fraternal love, robust, honest and clean, and know how to behave themselves everywhere. Good family education nurtured Yangao Qing and Yanzhen Qing patriotic figures that unyield in the defence of justice and command the wind and clouds. Good family customs based on good family education. Yan family regards Confucism as the core, characterized by calligraphy and inclusive identity. Yan family reached a new peak in calligraphy, while got higher achievements in literature, historiography and philogy. The third chapter describes a family's marriage and social relations which put emphasis on studying noble family in the middle ancient ages. Through marriages and social relations can a family's character be seen in the social status .Most of Yan family's friends are of higher status and the importance of culture for moral heritage of the family. This shows Yan family's character of emphasizing on culture and moral. This chapter also researches the relations between Yan families with the royal family. The last chapter briefly portrays Yan family's status in the middle ancient ages, indicating good family's education, customs run in a family and learning handed down in a family's function in developing Yan family's itself and the whole society, at the same time, this paper also describes marriage and social relations which play an important role in constructing social atmosphere and cultivating talents...
