The tombs of Li family was built in Qing dynasty, the carved figure stones of No.1-4 tombs ,comparing with the native others in the contemporary ,are very different .Thus the images of the carved figure stones indicate very unique meaning reflecting the idea of the owner, although they represented the subjects that were very popular at that time, but the subjects presented the individual mind after painstakingly selected and arranged by the family.The study of the carved figure stone tombs of country gentlemen in Qing dynasty is just in the beginning, so the basic question of the carved figure stone tombs in Qing dynasty and Li family must be solved at first in order to interpret the individual characteristics discussed above. The dissertation is divided into four parts, the first, the third and the forth chapter are central, the first chapter "the survey of Li family and their carved figure stones tombs" is about Li family and its economy, the owners of No.1-4 tombs belonged to Li Huaijing's clan, who were merchants in the middle period of Qing dynasty, the family was the most prosperous from the middle time of Jia Qing'years to Tong Zhi's years. The third chapter "the cooperators of designing the tombs" , the author analyzed the issues of who were the cooperators of designing the tombs, they were the owners and the craftsmen. But the owners were the most important directors who supplied some manuscripts and ordered the craftsmen to build the tombs by their plans. Otherwise the author discovered some owners of the unnamed tombs. The forth chapter "the selection of popular images and individual representation" analyzes the idea of the masters through interpreting the arrangement ,content and studying the owners.This dissertation discussed about the individual characteristics of No.1-4 carved figure stones tombs, which are solved by interpretation in above chapters step by step.
