Since the Shang and the Zhou dynasties, the Yi ethnic continually moved into the Huai River valley, where had originally peopled by the Huai ethnic. A substance was consequently given to the Huai-Yi culture. In the beginning of the Zhou dynasty, the Xu state in southeastern Shandong province and the one of the Huai-Yi, after their failure in revolt to the Zhou, fled into downriver of the Huai River, and amalgamated into the Huai-Yi. Henceforward, the Huai-Yi who was differentiated the Zhou both from environment and culture came into being. During the period of 275 years of the Western Zhou dynasty, either submit or revolt to the Zhou, the Huai-Yi had a great influence on the history. This dissertation uses literal texts, bronze inscriptions, archaeological evidences as well to review the history of the Huai-Yi and locates the geographical position or territory of the members of the Huai-Yi. By examing the Zhou's strategy aimed at the Jianghuai region and two political attitudes to the Zhou from the Huai-Yi, I am going to analyze overall the influence of the political change on the archaeological culture.
