This thesis firstly establishes the space-time framework of the southern domain of the Early Zhou Dynasty(??)by thoroughly analyzing the archaeological materials,which lays solid foundation for further discussing the cultural structure of this area during this time.The abovementioned achievements serve as references for the following topics:discussing the chronology system of the early Zhou Dynasty(??)in this region,exploring the early Chu(?)culture,and understanding the ruling strategy of Zhou Dynasty(??),etc.The present research can be divided into seven chapters as follows.Chapter 1 is an introduction of this thesis.Firstly,the space-time scope and the research subject are clearly defined.And then,after reviewing the achievements and shortcomings of previous studies,this thesis briefly explains the research methods below.Chapter 2 focuses on building the chronological framework of the Nanyang basion(????)and Xiangyi plain(????).By means of the archaeological stratigraphy and typology,this thesis analyzes the shape of the cultural remains of five typical sits,including the Maogoudong(???)site in the city of Zaoyang(??),the Zhenwushan(???)site in the city of Xiangyang(??)and the Guojiamiao(???)cemetery in the city of Zaoyang(??).Based on above researches,the chronological framework of this area is preliminarily established.Specifically,the archaeological remains of this area can be classified into three periods and six phases.Chapter 3 focuses on the chronological framework of Yunshui River(??)basin and the Dabie Mountain(???).This part firstly discusses the dates of 38 sites during the early period of Zhou Dynasty(??),including the Lvwangcheng(???)site in the county Dawu(???)and Yejiashan(???)cemetery in the city of Suizhou(??).Moreover,the character of some sites is briefly investigated.Chapter 4 builds the chronological framework of the upstream of the Huaihe River(??)plain.By the analysis of the shape of the archaeological artifacts of the Puchengdian(???)site and Yingguo(??)cemetery in the city of Pingdingshan(???),the remains of this area can be included in the chronological system of three periods and six phases.Chapter 5 analyzes the evolution of cultural situation.According to the results of chronology above and the analysis of the shape and combination of the typical artifacts,this part discusses the dynamic distribution of the cultural relics in the southern domain of the Zhou Dynasty(??)during three different periods,namely the early period of the Western Zhou Dynasty(??),the middle and late stage of the Western Zhou Dynasty(??)and the period from the transform of the Western Zhou Dynasty(??)and the Eastern Zhou Dynasty(??)to the early phase of the Spring and Autumn Period(????).The end of this chapter is the analysis of the clan relationship.Chapter 6 attempts to rebuild the historical process on the basis of abovementioned archaeological evidence and makes a preliminary discussion on the reason of the evolution of cultural situation.Chapter 7 is the conclusion of the whole thesis.
