Maneuver signatures are essential elements of the music text for Erhu performance, which also represent an important hallmark distinguishing Erhu from other instruments in the music texts. As one of the widely used instrumentalities, Maneuver signatures, at any given era, should be able to serve as a tool to honestly and accurately express the sound effects that the composer pursues. It is our minds that first hear the sound of music, and then we try to record it by all means so as to enable the instrumentalist to convert it into a real piece of music and be felt by the audiences. Consequently, music notations and signatures play a role of information communication. Besides, as a significant mediator that records, contains and spreads the art of Erhu performance, signatures have been in turn a positive force driving the development of this art form and an indispensable subject in the teaching, successive learning as well as the performance of this instrument.First chapter of this dissertation focused on a detailed analytical construe of maneuver signatures for Erhu that have appeared from the early 1900s to the 1950s, while second chapter focused on the signatures developed from the 1950s to nowadays. Third chapter in this dissertation concentrate on summing up and summarizing the general characters of the development of maneuver signatures for Erhu. By making use of relevant references and materials as a carrier, this dissertation accentuated the voice of historical facts, trying to abide by precise and rational study norms.
