The polarization of rich and poor long has been the major problem that Indian society has to face. And most of the poor people were the social lower groups, such as the needy peasants, pariahs , the outcastes and so on. This article probed the main reasons that caused poverty problems and introduced the countermeasures that Indian government had taken to better the social status and economic situations of the poor people.Because of the various reasons of history, natural environment and social realities, the problem of poverty all along troubled Indian government. And the origin of the polarization between the poor and the rich was a problem of great complexity, which both had the historical and practical reasons. After the independence of India Premier Nehru took these issues as the important targets of the government and tried their best to realize the social fairness and eliminate the poverty. In order to improve the social status of the poor and better their economic situations, the Indian government drew up many laws and policies and carried a series of reformations in political, economic and cultural aspects. In the social aspect, the Indian government abolished the outcastes rules and reformed the former education system which previously refused to accept the lower class people. And because the poor peasants made up of the main part of the impoverished people the Indian government successively carried on the land reformation, the green revolution and the rural comprehensive development plan. These reformations and plans assured the poor peasants their own pieces of farmland and the infrastructures in the countryside were also improved. Otherwise all previous Indian governments also put forward various employment plans, loan credit plans, antipoverty measures and social security policies to help the needy people out of the disadvantageous situations. Thanks to these help ,the lower class people had seen a great change of their life. For both China and India are the biggest developing countries in the world, they share a lot of similarities in the development road. So the experiences that India government achieved to fight against the poverty will be beneficial to us to deal with the division of the society.
