Students' English Reading And Countermeasures

Nowadays, English is one of the main international commonly used language and also the most extensively used language in the world. With the enlarging of the opening to the outside world, the progressive achievements of the scientific technology, the enormous improvement of the international status, a large number of English professionals are urgently needed in order to fit in with the needs of the social development and international communication. Learning English well has the important realistic and profound historical meaning. So, cultivating English reading ability of the college students is an important content in college English teaching.In this thesis, the author starts from analyzing the definition and related definition of English reading in college English teaching, by collecting and analyzing the foreign and domestic research achievements of English reading, on the basis of the author's own teaching experience and the interview with the college students, observes the present situation of English reading of the college students in terms of the reading's interest, basic knowledge, the state of mind and habits, reading strategies and background information etc., defines the necessity and importance of enhancing English reading in college English teaching, explores the detailed ways and effective methods of how to improve the English reading ability of the college students in English classroom teaching.In accordance with the problems in college students'English reading, the author explores how to improve the college students'reading ability in terms of teaching concept, teaching content, teaching method, teaching means, etc. Proposing that in the future's college English teaching, in order to cultivate the students to master the important skills of English reading in the unfavorable circumstances, we should make great efforts from the following aspects: the change of the teaching concept, the optimization of the teaching content, the application of the new teaching method, the use of the flexible teaching means, the reinforcing of the reading strategies, the strengthening of the English background information, the cultivating of English self-reading ability, thus provide the college students with strong English reading ability.
