Intellectuals In Exile

The characters of intellectuals play an important role in Milan·Kundera's novels. They are often described more vividly and became more special than the other characters in Kundera's novels. This thesis basics on the text of the novels, analyzes the relation of character,writer and language environment, expresses what is the intellectual and how they display in the novels.The structure of the four chapters presented here is as follows: the first chapter is the prolegomenon. It deals with the summary of Kundera study and expresses the reason to write this treatise. The second chapter is to define the intellectual and show the intellectual characters in Kundera's novels. Then explore the difference of the characters between the early novels and the novels that written after exile. The third chapter is fringe field of view in exile. It is split into three sections: 1.body in exile: express the feeling when the characters go apart from their motherland to exile in other country. 2.mental in exile: through complicated turns of structures, images and theme, the writer explore the mental change when the characters facing the contradiction between"being"and"forgetting". 3. frontiere of exile: explore the profound significance of the exile. The forth chapter deals with the type of the intellectuals characters and the feature of them by analyzing the writing skill and the lack of the writing.At last the purpose of this thesis is to support a new way to recognize the intellectual characters, creating an unexpected pattern that in turn allow for an new view, a new reading and a new interpretation of the intellectuals in Kundera's novels.
