Wang Zengqi was one of the outstanding representatives. This thesis holds that Wang was a writer of unique disposition in modern Chinese history of literature. His unchanging aesthetic pursuit focused on poetic fulfillment and spiritual freedom. At a time when "sentimental literature" and "meditation literature" prevailed, Wang retuned to the literary world with a short story Being Initiated into Monkhood, fresh and casual in style while deep in meaning, manifesting an odor and the aesthetic pursuit of Jiangnan poetic culture. Avoiding political criticism and fashionable concerns at the time, his writing showed a great care for the common folks with a simple style closing to the countryside. He constructed in his work a pure and originate country world full of local characteristics and poetic beautifulness with simple but elegant characters, which depicted ideal humanity and a free and vigorous living form.
