In late Qing Dynasty, in order to encourage and appoint students studying abroad , Qing government started to make policy to encourage and reward the students abroad who graduated and came back to home, and gave them Chin-shih or Juren . With more and more students abroad returning to the home and test scale continueing to expand, Qing government also unceasingly revisesd and perfected the regulations of examination, and made them a series of thorough and complete system.In 1905, Qing government held the fisrt examination of students abroad returning to homeland, In 1911, Qing government was overthrew, and the regulations of students abroad examination ended too. From 1905 to 1911 Qing government held seven students abroad examinations. There were about 170 persons getting Chin-shih. Adding awarded Chin-shih of exemption of examinations and Gongshi studying abroad, there were more than 180 persons together. Besides, Qing government also constituted regulations for Chin-shih Guan students abroad and military students abroad.The students abroad were familiar with and understood western advanced science, culture and political system. They were active and had strong innovative consciousness. Qing government looked forward to making use of their ability to strengthen governance very much. Qing government made them officials by awarding them. The students abroad had new knowledge, new culture and new idea, and had great capabilities. They made great contributions in politics, economy, culture, diplomacy, science, education and so on, and played a very important role in the Chinese modernization advancement.
