Film Title Translation From The Perspective Of Naturalization And Alienation

This thesis discusses Chinese and English film title translation from the perspective of domestication and foreignization. The author points out the respective functions of domestication and foreignization in film title translation and then illustrates the application of these two translating strategies. As film is a kind of mass entertainment, thus in film title translation the target reader (audience) takes a great influence in choosing these two strategies. So it is inevitable to see domestication strategy nowadays is in more favorable position. While as the communication among countries has become more and more frequently, the audience's ability of accepting another culture will also improve gradually, which would raises the proportion of foreignization translation. Finally, the author points out that, in film title translation, domestication and foreignization are doomed to coexist at present and for quite a long time under such circumstances.
