The flourish of the economy has a strong impact on the type of shortnovel's writing at the era between the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Li Yuis an important and famous writer at that time, because of his specificwriting approach which makes him a repellant against the tradition ofChinese ancient literature.Li Yu puts forwand a new theory of "silent play" and applies it intonovels originally. Firstly, in the thirty novel works, Li Yu tries his bestto portray strange characters and narrate new stories. Secondly, effectedby the traditional opera, Li Yu believes that the structure is the first. Heis skilled in intensifying the contradiction. He sets up each novel'stopic and content ingeniously. Thirdly, many stage techniques which arepermeating the novels embody Li Yu' s new mode of thingking.However, under the sense of recreation, the new attempt at applyingopera theory into short novels is facing an awkward position. It leadsto the regular formula of narrative structure and fixed characters. Also,It results in the conflict between common peculiarity,, the imbalancebetween education in ethics and recreations.In a word, because of the distinctive style, Li Yu suffers fromnegation and criticism.
