Hu Feng is an unavoidable tragic charactet in Chinese contemporaryliterature history. His existence represents another, personality type of Chineseintellectual persons in 20th century. Hu Feng Event can be called 20th century's Chinesepolitical and spiritual event. His literature theory is the creative achievement of radicaltheory with life experience and inner tension. Frustrating fate, strong determination,sincere personality together with special theory lead to his unique existence. Speak ofHu Feng, we always feel depressed and respectful. His personally psychological fatalcrux also suggests the entire spiritual symptom of Chinese intellects. So for intellects,dissecting Hu Feng is also self-introspection. In this sense, Hu Feng and Hu FengPhenomenon are still a topic to be continued for us.The present research about Hu Feng care more about his critical practice than theprofound reason why he engaged in criticism; more about his outlook of literature andcreative work than the research into his critical viewpoint; more about his theory itselfthan his inherent critical psychology. As to Hu Feng who is a critic, this of course can'tembody his unique viewpoint of criticism and his personality in the critical process,which will exactly affect the deep research into his criticism.To deal with this point, thisessay will make a discussion according to the above three aspects easily neglected andtry to give immatural opinions.To make it clear, the author demonstrates the Hu Feng'sexperience in criticism, analyze his critical viewpoint, summarize his critical way ofthinking and psychological basis, and in turn confirm his value in Chinesecontemporary critical history by combining case analysis with systematic comparison.There are four parts to discuss.Ⅰ. Hu Feng's experience in criticism. This part will roughly outline Hu Feng'scritical experience, focusing on the research into the formation of his literature criticism,paying more attention to the period from his young age to the beginning of his taking upcriticism in the 1930s. The discussion will revolve around individual psychology,literature tradition and times environment. Besides the author thinks Hu Feng'spsychology to be artistic type and his psychology has direct effect on his criticalpractice and his principle to deal with the outside world.Ⅱ. Hu Feng's outlook on criticism. Based on his own strict definition of criticalcriticism considering his critical practice, this part will completely and systematicallyillustrate his outlook on criticism. In summary, his outlook has practicality to be for life.,His demand for the subject's quality of critics is more attractive. In his opinion, as a practical operator, the potential quality and outer responsibility are both important for acritic.Ⅲ. Hu Feng's thinking form of criticism. Responding to the thinking of art typementioned above, this part will discuss the effect the inner motivation of personalpsychology on way of thinking and behavior model of Hu Feng's article criticism. Theway of thinking is a process of using thinking related to psychological type,and it hastendentiousness and can easily form some kind psychological trendency thus affectingpeople's practical activities.This part involves in four critical thinking methods, that is,experience——self-thinking; rationality——restraining thinking; sensation——dualistic thinking; instinct——entire thinking.Ⅳ. Hu Feng and Chinese contemporary literature criticism. The author believesthat the development history of Chinese contemporary criticism is the entanglementhistory between literature and politics. Hu Feng's literature criticism can be consideredto loiter between literature and politics in general. He really wants to harmonize theboth. Thus, by comparing Hu Feng's criticism with left-flank's radical and politilizedcriticism of "Speech School" even with the criticism with the trend of freedom "JingSchool" beyond left-flank camp, we can see his situation and choice between literatureand politics, and his position in critical history is definite.In a word, it is believed that Hu Feng is a great critic of rich emotion, havingprofound understanding of literature creative laws, brave enough to insist on his ownopinion. However, his own experience, characteristics and the limit of times make itimpossible for him to transcend the reality. Artistic thinking along with vtilized outlookon literature and criticism results in heresy inside left-flank camp and orthodoxy outsidecamp. Hu Feng's existence enriches Chinese contemporary literature's critical ecologyand predict another potential development of Marxism literature theory in China.
