The period from the 1920s-40s marks not only the transformation of music creation of our country, but also the introduction of art song as a form of vocal music work into China. The Chinese composers have combined this type of western music with the Chinese classic verses and ditties and invented a new form of art song– the classic poetic art song. With a higher rate of success and artistic value, words of this kind have occupied an important place during the course of creating songs in our country and are of irreplaceable practical meaning in the current singing and teaching due to the characteristics of combing the classic literature with music.Through the research in the developing thread of the classic poetic art songs in this period and the musical features that need grasping in performance, the author attempts to propose the concrete measures in music teaching, which embodies the applying significance and value of these songs to vocal music teaching. The thesis falls into four chapters indicated as follows:Chapter one defines the classic poetic art song. Based on the outline, formation and historical origin of Chinese classic poetic art songs, it identifies the characteristics and difference among the classic poetic art songs, western art songs and Chinese ancient songs and put forward the definition of the classic poetic art songs. Chapter two generalizes the development of the classic poetic art songs in the 1920s– 40s. Chronologically, it divides the development of classic poetic art song into three periods– 20s, 30s and 40s. Next it displays the representatives, their masterpieces and general style of their creations. Finally it analyses and summarizes the development thread of the creation of these three periods.Chapter three expounds on the musical features that need grasping in performing the classic poetic art songs of the 1920s– 40s, from the analysis of the features of poetry, music, the mixing of them and the notes and marks made by the author.Chapter four highlights on the application of the classic poetic art songs of the 20s– 40s to vocal music teaching. According to their features, the author discusses the application of elementary musical items, the multi-element teaching of classic musical items and the digging out of supplementary musical items, which gives a comparatively comprehensive embodiment of the applying significance and value of Chinese classic poetic art songs.. The conclusion is about the brief historical review and its realistic reflection of the application of Chinese classic art song of the 1920s– 40s in vocal music teaching.
