At the beginning of 20 centuries, futurism emerged from Italy which owns a deep classical tradition. However, Futurism is an exhaustive "traitor" because it wants to break from the past and regards traditions as barriers to innovation. This thesis reveals how it breaks from the tradition on the basis of the social background of the early 20th century and the analysis of subjective and objective factors. Then it points out that the violent rebellion against the past is because of Italian deep classical tradition. The Italians long for the future so much that they get the courage to fight against the tradition. Their passion for rebellion originates from their admiration for Nietzsche. By analyzing the characteristics of futuristic art, the thesis points out that the rebellion has limitation. Although the theories of futurism can' t be fully accepted, its rebellious spirit against tradition has exerted far-reaching influence on modern art. |
