From the end of the 17th to the beginning of the 18th, the opera of Naples in Italy was well known all around Europe, and the opera influenced other European countries. The first part of this article is to introduce the development of Neapolitan opera and other music types; the author will show several points of the views of the Neapolitan opera as follow: the relationships between opera and nobility, commoner, conservatory, composers. In the first part, the author will summarize the style of Neapolitan opera. The second part of this article will discuss the reasons of the flourish and decay of music in Naples. The author gives several reasons: the opened and multivariate society, the development of commerce, and the characters of Neapolitan people. In the epilogue of the article, the author shows the thought of the relationship between artists and audience.
