Space Images. Suqing Works

Suqing was the famous female writer in shanghai from 1930s to 1940s. Her works were based on the essays and novels, in which the theme was mostly about the female life. Because of the historic reasons, Suqing didn't attract the researchers from the liberation to 1980s. Since 1980s, with the rise of researching Zhang ailing, Suqing who had some tries with Zhang ailing was referred to and concerned by the researchers. But a unique phenomena in Suqing's works, the creation of space image, rarely were drew attention to by the earlier researchers. For this, my article tries researching the space image on the basis of Suqing's essays and novels so that I can analyze the female living difficulties and literature value on the number.The first part puts much emphasis on discussing the division and origin of the space image. In Suqing's works, the space image of the female life can be divided into three, family, sea and my room. There are two causes, one is the restrict of history. The long-term rule of man has caused the lose of the female value and made the female stay at home forced to obey the rules regulated by the male society. The other is the trouble of the reality. When the 1930s and 1940s of the 20th , the equality of male and female had developed, but the female living difficulties weren't changed and the female slided into the embarrassing situation in this society.The second part analyzes the emergence of the space images in Suqing's works. Combining the concrete works, I will analyze the three space images carefully including family, sea and room in order to discuss the living situation about the female. In the space of family, women like prisoners and the family is the image of captiving female. In the space of sea, it likes a huge hole and women were put in it but can not control their fate who will be swallowed by the sea or struggle to float on the sea. In the space of the room which regarded as the releasing space by female, it is closed which cause the self-enclosed space including the female loneliness. The last part puts the emphasis on discussing the literature value about the space image in Suqing works. This part analyzes the works from two respects. One is the space images and the theme. Suqing states two themes through setting the three space images. The first is that she describes the female living difficulties concretely in order to display her concern about the female life. The second is that she dares to face the female desire and has no doubt about it. The other respect is the space image and the ideal. On the basis of stating the female living difficulties, she brings up the family ideal and the society ideal about the equality of male and female.
