YuanMei was an outstanding writer in the Mid-term Qing Dynasty ,his poetry,prose,letters and so on have achieved such impressive achievements."Confucius has said nothing","tales of Liaozhai"and" Sketches of Yuewei Humble Cottage" were three most important novel.Relatively speaking, study of the"Confucius has said nothing"is weak.This article will take it as an object of study. Hope to give the " Confucius has said nothing " a comprehensive elaboration.Except for preface and epilogue,this paper is divided into three parts.Section one ,Yuan Mei and the"Confucius has said nothing".This section will relate to his fictional idea,views on ghosts and gods , the compilation and dissemination of the"Confucius has said nothing".Besides he elaborates his novel viewpoint directly in the novel preface,Yuan Mei also penetrates the works to elaborate on it. Although Yuan Mei has not been separated from the idea which regards the novel as"the track"completely,he affirms the novel function actually,he represents the progressive novel viewpoint,it also reflects the transitional tendency from real to imaginary.Not only does he approve of the novel's recreational roles, but also he attaches great importance to the novels's charitable functions. As one mystery story,Yuan Mei has the fuzzy idea about the ghosts and gods,generally speaking,Yuan Mei believes in ghosts and gods,but he does not fear it actually, "Confucius has said nothing " affirms human dauntless struggle spirit.Its name only indicates that the novel is a mystery story,there is no meaning of violating the sages and challenging the authority. From the young time,Yuan Mei has begun to collect materials,it takes years of work to compile this novel, before the 53rd year of the Qianlong Dynasty ,it has been compiled completely.Its dissemination is also widespread,there are dozens of works related to"Confucius has said nothing"in the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China,novel is also spread to the ordinary people.But the dissemination of the"Confucius has said nothing"is not problem-free,it had ever been banned because of its contents against the law.Section two,probes into the profound ideological content.The content is multifarious and cover many aspects,it exposes corruption of official management,filled with expectancy to pure brightness world; YuanMei takes a sensible attitude to the issue of the imperial examination,regards the imperial examination as a stepping-stone,students should cope well with the relationship between the imperial examination and the knowledge, he insists that learning knowledge is the most important aim.YuanMei is critical of the Neo-confucianism basically,negates the Neo-Confucianism's proposition of"saves the natural justice, extinguishes the human desire", but he makes an objective appraisal of the historical reason which produces the Neo-Confucianism, YuanMei takes the appreciative attitude to the Confucian moralist who matches his deeds with his words. In addition, the novel advocates Chinese traditional virtue, YuanMei takes open-minded attitude towards the life and death .It also covers the Buddhism, geomancy and so on. The novel also covers some contents about natural disasters, the folk custom, the technical invention and so on, all these deserved to be affirmed.Section three, sums up features of arts of the"Confucius has said nothing", which reader likes it for a long time. The novel uses kinds of techniques(for example : contrast) to portray characters, characters are different from each other in thousands of ways; the plot are varied, structure are scattered and diverse; Languages are succinct, vivid, rich in expressive ability and imagination; It also presents the humorous style and the greatest delight.This article adopts the way of case study ,introduces YuanMei's fictional idea, views on ghosts and gods ,the compilation, dissemination of the"Confucius has said nothing", sums up its profound ideological contents and the artistic features, I hope and pray that it will play a positive role in further studies, subsequently play certain supplemental role in YuanMei's whole studies.
